چکیده

|This paper presents a statistical approach to developing multimodal recognition systems and, in particular, to integrating the posterior probabilities of parallel input signals involved in the multimodal system. We rst identify the primary factors that innuence multimodal recognition performance by evaluating the multimodal recognition probabilities. We then develop two techniques, an estimate approach and a learning approach, which are designed to optimize accurate recognition during the multimodal integration process. We evaluate these methods using Quickset, a speech/gesture multimodal system, and report evaluation results based on an empirical corpus collected with Quick-set. From an architectural perspective, the integration technique presented here ooers enhanced robustness. It also is premised on more realistic assumptions than previous mul-timodal systems using semantic fusion. From a methodolog-ical standpoint, the evaluation techniques that we describe provide a valuable tool for evaluating multimodal systems.

Multimodal integration in statistical learning: evidence from the McGurk illusion

Recent advances in the field of statistical learning have established that learners are able to track regularities of multimodal stimuli, yet it is unknown whether the statistical computations are performed on integrated representations or on separate, unimodal representations. In the present study, we investigated the ability of adults to integrate audio and visual input during statistical lea...

Using Weighted Distributions for Modeling‎ Skewed‎, ‎Multimodal and Truncated Data‎

When the observations reflect a multimodal‎, ‎asymmetric or truncated construction or a combination of them‎, ‎using usual unimodal and symmetric distributions leads to misleading results‎. ‎Therefore‎, ‎distributions with ability of modeling skewness‎, ‎multimodality and truncation have been in the core of interest in statistical literature‎, ‎always‎. ‎There are different methods to contract ...

Enforcing Co-expression in Multimodal Regression Framework

We consider the problem of multimodal data integration for the study of complex neurological diseases (e.g. schizophrenia). Among the challenges arising in such situation, estimating the link between genetic and neurological variability within a population sample has been a promising direction. A wide variety of statistical models arose from such applications. For example, Lasso regression and ...

Platform for flexible integration of multimodal technologies into web application domain

Most users in either desktop or ubiquitous environments access Web applications from Web browser interfaces. Majority of standard Web applications are still based on GUIs and usually support user-machine interaction using traditional human-machine interfaces (e.g. mouse, keyboard). In order to make access to the Web content more natural and to improve user experience, advanced user interfaces, ...
